How to Make a Martini

Want to know how to make a martini that will have you named "martini-maker extraordinaire?" Break out the martini shaker - Cheers all Year has the scoop!

Shaken or stirred? Dry and Dirty? One olive or two?

Martinis are actually quite simple. There are several drinks that are referred to as martinis such as Vodkatinis and Chocolate Martinis. But in fact, these aren't really martinis, they're just served in a martini glass. You'll find several popular mixed drinks recipes on our mixed alcoholic drinks page.

There are three types of martinis. All are made with gin and vermouth. Simply follow the directions below on how to make a martini, and enjoy them at your next creative theme party or cocktail party!

  • Basic Martini: 3 parts gin to 1 part dry vermouth.
  • Dry Martini: 6 parts gin to 1 part dry vermouth.
  • Extra Dry Martini: Gin with a dash of dry vermouth.

More Martini Tips:

  • To make "dirty" martinis, add 1/2 ounce olive juice to 3 ounce mixed alcoholic drinks.
  • Martinis are garnished with an olive.
  • A dry martini garnished with a pickled onion is referred to as a Gibson.

Pour the martini ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with cracked ice. Shake well and strain into a martini glass.
